Elbrus from the East

The ascent of Elbrus from the East side is a real expedtion and requires an approach of 2 days via Irik Valley. This route is used not often, as the approach is long, but we have the possibility to tranport equipment with horses right to the beginning of the Irikchat Glacier. On the ascent to the East summit we follow the lava stream Achkeryakol and pass one of the side craters. From here we will have a magnificent view towards the snow plateau Dzhikaugenkyoz (a huge frozen lake). The East summit is interesting to climb, because the main crater which has a diameter of 250 m, is still visible. After ascending the East summit we descend to the saddle and from there via the normal route to Baksan Valley. As the distance of this route is big 12 days are necessary for the program. It is important to have good alpine experience or take some training before your arrival.
