Florian KusiHi Ihr,

meine Freundin und ich sind vom 25. Juli bis 17. August in Terskol.

LizaOur programs for 2006:

Freeride Camp & Heli: January – late April
• NEW LOCATIONS in addition to Elbrus – freeride camp in Dombai and Krasnaya Polyana (Western Caucasus)
• Duration 8 or 15 days
• Program schedule depends on group level and snow conditions (ascents with lifts – heli – randonée skiing)
• For skiers, telemarkers and snowboarders, mixed groups also possible

Elbrus ski climb: late April – June
• 8 days: Elbrus ski climb via the normal route from the South with lift ascent up to 3700 m
• 15 days: Elbrus ski climb + program extension before or after the climb with ski touring program in Adyrsuu valley or other side valleys

Elbrus climb via the normal route from the South: June – September
• 8 days: Elbrus climb with lift ascent up to 3700 m
• 15 days: Elbrus climb + program extension with climbs of other interesting summits (3000-ers or 4000-ers) in the area or trekking program in Baksan valley or Bezengi valley

NEW 2006:

Elbrus climb from the Northwest side: June – September 2006 (10 – 14 days)
• New climbing program scheduled due to the recent political situation in Kabardino-Balkaria!
• Transfer from Mineralnye Vody airport to base camp avoids passing Kabardino-Balkarian territory; first we will drive Kislovodsk, a cozy little town with hot springs, from where we continue with a 4-wheeled vehicle via a dirt road to the base camp at the foothills of Mt. Elbrus, which is located in Karachaevo-Cherkessia republic.
• Tour is more expedition-like as we will not use lifts and stay in tents on the mountain; no special skills necessary
• Route is rarely used by other climbers and gives wonderful insights in the Caucasian nature

New programs in new regions: freeriding, ski touring, trekking, climbing, expeditions
• New programs scheduled due to the recent political situation in Kabardino-Balkaria!
• Come with us to the Western Caucasus (Adygeya republic + Dombai region), Kamchatka, Georgia, Armenia, Kirgistan, Turkey, Lebanon or Marocco!
• All programs on request

Elbrus climb from the South via Terskol valley and ice camp: June – September (10 days)
• Elbrus climb without lift support
• Beautiful and lonely ascent route for people with a little more time, who want to gain first expedition experiences
• Steadily rising sleeping altitude helps us to acclimatize well (camps at 2500 m, 3000 m, 3600 m and 4300 m, maybe 4600 m)
• Short summit day, even without the use of the snow cat
• Parts of your equipment will be transported separately up to 4300 m by lifts and snowcat, so you do not need to carry everything yourself
• Descent with lifts possible

Elbrus expedition from the East side: June – September (12 days)
• Climb Elbrus during main season by a rarely used route: from the East side via the Irikchat valley to the Eastern summit, then climb the Western summit
• Technical easy climb in expedition style with tent accomodation for people in good shape
• Parts of your gear will be transported by horses to the beginning of Irikchat glacier (appr. 3500 m)
• Descent with lifts possible

Kirgistan/ Peak Lenin Expedition (7134 m): July – August 2006
• 3 weeks expedition in Kirgistan to the top of one of the easiest 7000-ers
• Travelling by plane to Bishkek and Osh, from there by four-weeled cars to Achiktash camp (3600 m)
• Basecamp (4400 m) on the moraine of Lenin glacier, untill where you can transport your gear by horses and porters, further camps at 5300 m and 6100 m
• Alpine skills (use of ice axe and rope) are necessary to overcome crevasses and smaller steep parts during the descent, experience in snow camping is welcome
• Ski touring ascent possible
• Good acclimatization, the right equipment, luck with the weather and personal endurance are important factors that help you reach the summit

For full tour descriptions and prices please e-mail us: info@go-elbrus.com.

jaseHi

I am wanting to get accommodation in the elbrus area as I am going to come skiing there around March April (is that a good time to enjoy resort skiing ski touring and heliskiing).

I am after cheap as possible but with hot showers etc.

also what do I need to do about getting visa invitation etc, I am from New Zealand. I hope to bring a freind but if I come alone is there many english speaking people about so that I could ski with them.

Is it best to get food included in price or is it cheap to eat out.

One last thing, can you arrange flights and transfers from moscow.

cheers Jase

GregHey mate,

Me and an Australian friend are planning to go to elbrus in the last week of February. If you wann to share accommodation with us to make it cheaper that would be sweet. It sounds like you plan to travel in a similar fashion to us (as cheap as we can, but with showers, good food etc).

Although you are a kiwi, maybe we could lay off you a little bit and form some kind of ANZAC combination in Elbrus. That way you could ski with us, and the accommodation is cheaper. Feel free to write to my email address - s4076016@student.uq.edu.au

Cheers,

Greg Midgley

cristinahello
I whant to now if , Mount Elbrus is good for climbing in oct , and if it's ok to go in this period ,what climbing gear I need.
27 June 200500:10
LizaHi Cristina! October is not really good for climbing Elbrus, it can be already quite cold and windy, it is winter above 4000 m at this time of the year. You need very warm clothes, good crampons and ice axe, plastic boots. Better come in may - september!
11 June 200500:29
LizaFebruary is not a good time for climbing Mt. Elbrus - it is very cold, very windy and sometimes very bad weather. If you intend to do so you have to come at least for 2 weeks, bring very good equipment (crampons for water fall climbing and the same for the ice axe, very warm down jacket and mittens, very warm expedition type boots etc.) and be a very good climber (this means, you must be good in walking with crampons in windy weather on very hard ice, possibly without belaying (as the ice in winter is so hard that ice screws just can come out because the ice breaks). Usually, in winter only Russian climbers climb Elbrus, the ones who want to prepare for expeditions to the Himalayans.
